"We acknowledge the vital role of our business in safeguarding and enriching the environment for future generations, as well as contributing to the long-term sustainability of the tourism and hospitality industry."
Lawlor's of Naas is firmly committed to forging a sustainable future for the hospitality industry by implementing a comprehensive set of measures. These include adopting sound environmental practices throughout our entire operation; developing an annual Environmental Plan that outlines our objectives, targets, and planned actions; regularly monitoring and documenting our environmental impacts to assess our progress against the plan and ransparently communicating our objectives, policies, and practices to all interested parties.
Furthermore, we are dedicated to complying fully with all relevant legislation to ensure responsible operation; minimizing waste and reducing water consumption by prioritizing the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle and providing all employees with the necessary training and resources to achieve our sustainability goals.
To protect the tourism industry, we actively promote sustainable tourism activities to our guests. Additionally, we encourage participation from our suppliers and contractors to collectively embrace greener practices. Together, we can make a positive impact on the environment and foster a thriving, sustainable hospitality sector.
To date, we have been actively engaged in various initiatives and efforts to promote environmental conservation and sustainability at the hotel.
Our Guest Recycle Policy and Water Conservation tent cards are on display in all bedrooms, which includes our policy of unnecessary towel use. We have a full range of recycling bins throughout the hotel in our kitchens, front-of-house & back-of house plus strict use instructions and training for staff to minimise contamination. In addition, there are a full range of coloured larger bins in yard for General Waste, Recycling Waste, Glass Waste, Food Waste, Baled Cardboards and returning used cooking oil.
All take away items are bio-degradable ie cups, take-out boxes and drinking straws plus recyclable napkins, which have replaced coasters. Napkins are disposed into compost bins and AES (our waste management company) makes fertilisers from the above paper cups, straws and take away boxes as they are compostable and made of paper.
We have implemented a programme of retrofitting all existing halogen and incandescent bulbs to led which will result in significant savings in KWHs per annum.
To show our committment to sustainable tourism practices, we are members of Repak and are taking part in the Green Hospitality Programme Ireland (www.greenhospitality.ie)
Four EV charging points are to be installed in the car park of the hotel. These 22KW AC chargers will give a full charge in 1-6 hrs.
AND we have a dedicated Green Champion at the hotel too who makes all of above happen!
