Discover Ireland's Heritage.

Naas is perfectly placed in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East, a region rich in grand estates, medieval sites, and centuries old stories. When you stay at Lawlor’s of Naas, you’re not just booking a room, you’re stepping in to a region surrounded by historic treasures, all just a short journey away.

Here are five unforgettable day trips, each under an hour from our door, that let you explore Ireland’s past.

Located in Blessington, just 35 minutes from Lawlor’s, is an architectural jewel of the 18th century, Russborough House is one of Ireland’s finest examples of Palladian design. Wander through the rooms, admire the world-class art collection, and explore beautifully landscaped grounds, including a maze, lake and sculpture trail.

Located in County Laois.

Designed by renowned architect James Gandon, Emo Court blends neoclassical elegance with peaceful woodlands, ornamental lakes and majestic trees. Inside, discover beautifully restored interiors, while outside, enjoy tranquil walks through gardens and forest paths.

Jigginstown Castle

Located on the outskirts of Naas, just 10 minutes from Lawlor’s.

Often overlooked, Jigginstown Castle is a rare and atmospheric ruin.

Built in the 1630s for Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, this ambitious red-brick palace, intended for King Charles I, although it was never completed. It’s Irelands first large-scale brick structure, with haunting ruins that hint at royal plans cut short by civil war.

St David’s Castle

Located just a five-minute walk from Lawlor’s.

Build by the Normans, Saint David’s Castle once formed part of the town's medieval defences. While the interior isn’t open to the public, its solid stone walls and commanding presence still anchor the town’s heritage. Stand before it and you are looking at over 800 years of history.

A little further away but well worth the journey. Glendalough a visually breathtaking site. Founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century, this monastic settlement is nestled between two lakes, surrounded by misty Wicklow hills. Explore ancient churches, a soaring round tower, and moss-covered gravestones that tell a story of Ireland’s ancient history.

These day trips offer more than just sightseeing, they’re a chance to step into stories that shaped Ireland!

After a day spent exploring castles, monasteries, and winding country roads, there’s nothing better than returning to comfort at Lawlor’s of Naas. Whether you relax with a drink in the bar, enjoy dinner in one of our restaurants, or simply unwind in your room, we’re here to make your stay as memorable as your journey.
